Please remember to call the attendance hotline at 760 901-8401 when your child is out. Please state your name, your childs name, the date of the absence, the reason for the absence and the teachers name. Thank you!

In the Event of an Emergency
In the event of an emergency, for the most updated information San Diego's KOGO- AM-600 is always a good source to turn to for updated information when we cannot supply it ourselves.If you have a smart phone, you can download the free app-iHeart radio and tap into the San Diego city listing of stations to listen to KOGO live. In the future the district office will try to post public service announcements to KOGO.

2014-15 Student/Parent Handbook Available Online
The OUSD 2014-15 Student/Parent Handbook is now available for viewing online. The handbook is available in both English and Spanish. Parents can also download a PDF version of this guide. Click English Student/Parent Handbook or Spanish Student/Parent Handbook to access this year’s guide.

Come help in the Butterfly Garden

We need everyone to help: Parents and grandparents! Bring your child to school in the morning and stay to help in the garden. No experience is needed. Help us to prepare the garden for the butterflies. Adults and children will be given everything needed (including coaching about which weeds to pull and how to plant).
Come and make an important difference for our school, our community, and our planet!
Measles Awareness and Information for Parents
The San Diego County Office of Health and Human Services has verified several reported cases of measles throughout the county. Please know that NO cases of this highly contagious viral infection have been reported in the Oceanside Unified School District.
Click Measles Information to learn more about what you can to help prevent the spread of this condition, and what to do should you suspect your child or some other person in your family or household may have symptoms of measles. In the event of any reported cases in our district, you will be informed. Visit Centers for Disease Control for further information.

Interdistrict Transfer Requests for 2015-16 School Year
Requests to transfer students to schools located inside or outside the OUSD zoned boundaries will be accepted beginning January 5, 2015. Interdistrict application forms are available at the OUSD Education Support Services Office, 2080 Mission Ave. The office is open 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 2015-2016 School of Choice Application Process Begins January 5, 2015
Parents looking to move a child from one OUSD school site to another for the 2015-16 school year can begin applying for the district’s School of Choice (SOC) option beginning January 5, 2015. The deadline to file the application is Tuesday, March 31 at 3:30 p.m.
Click School of Choice for specific details on the application process, and to view a list of schools classified as “capped” due to enrollment capacity. For more information, please call the OUSD Student Services Department at 760-966-7802.

Los padres de familia interesados en trasladar a sus hijos de una escuela a otra escuela del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Oceanside para el año escolar 2015-16 pueden solicitar la opción de Escuela de Preferencia (School of Choice) a partir del 5 de enero de 2015. Project Tomorrow Speak Up Survey
Here is an opportunity to share your thoughts about 21st Century Education and technology. Speak Up, a national online research project facilitated by Project Tomorrow®, gives individuals the opportunity to share their viewpoints about key educational issues, particularly concerning 21st century education and technology. Each year, findings are summarized and shared with national and state policy makers. Participating schools and districts can access their data online, free-of-charge in February 2015. $800 Garden Grant
Thank you to the Village Garden Club of La Jolla! The Butterfly Garden at McAuliffe has been selected to receive an $800 garden grant. The funds from this grant will support the upkeep and maintenance of our Butterfly Garden. Thank you to the parents and students that keep our garden looking great. If you are interested in working in and supporting our garden, please contact Ellen Bialik, McAuliffe Garden Coordinator.
Impact Aid Survey Cards Help Benefit District
All OUSD parents and guardians are asked to please fill out the 2014 Federal Impact Aid Survey card. Survey cards will be sent home with students on Wednesday, October 1 and must be returned the following day, Thursday, October 2. This important survey is used to determine the number of parents in our district who work or live on federal property. The federal government provides funds to the Oceanside Unified School District based on the results of this survey. Examples of federal property include: all military bases (Camp Pendleton, MCRD, Miramar, etc.), Indian tribal lands (including casinos), immigration offices, homeland security offices, FBI buildings, farm land on federal property, border patrol offices and federal subsidized housing. ParentLink App Available for OUSD Parents
A new ParentLink App for smart phones is now available to OUSD parents. The App aims to provide and improve all avenues of district and student communication and information for parents. Watch the video below.
ParentLink’s easy-to-use App provides emergency messaging, custom messages and language translation. Parents can now get OUSD information when they need it.
OUSD Parents using the district’s Aeries portal will be receiving an e-mail with instructions on how to download the App. For more information, please see the district website at http://www.oside.us/parentlink.

OUSD Policy on Bullying, Harassment and Discrimination
The local educational agency (LEA) adopted a policy that prohibits discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and bullying based on actual or perceived ancestry, age, color, disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or association with a person or a group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

Online Meal Registration
Parents can register their children online for the 2014-15 OUSD school lunch and breakfast programs. The national program provides meals at a reduced cost; eligible students with an approved free or reduced status may receive meals at no cost. Click Online Meal Registration to get started.
OUSD Nutrition Services has a Facebook Page!
"Like" OUSD Nutrition Services on Facebook. Lots of great information about breakfast and lunch items, information on special grant programs, and nutrition fun facts. It's also a great way to leave feedback! Also, Nutrition Services has an app for the menu! Search the app store for "School Lunch Nutrislice" and find the Nutrislice app. The app includes menus for each school, pictures of breakfast and lunch menu items, nutrition and allergen information, and the option to rate each food item.
Common Core Parent Information
California is one of 45 states nationwide to adopt the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English/Language Arts and mathematics. This shift in teaching has been characterized by some as “the most significant change to classroom instruction since 1998,” when California first adopted its own academic standards. The OUSD Student Wellness Policy focuses on nutrition and physical education.
Foods and beverages sold to students through the district’s child nutrition program, student stores, vending machines and fundraisers meet or exceed state and federal nutrition standards. Nutrition education is provided as a part of the district’s health education program.
