Dear Families,

It is simply impossible to believe that we are at the close of the 2012-2013 school year!  I thank you for ALL your energy, creativity, and support that you’ve given to your children and to the community of McAuliffe, it’s remarkable.

We have accomplished some amazing things this year even in light of all our budget cuts:  we started with a smooth opening to the school year, provided a rigorous enriching curriculum, had outstanding PTA events, served thousands of meals in our wonderful cafeteria, continued to create a safe campus, adorned the campus with colorful student projects and artwork; augmented our outstanding butterfly garden; sent hundreds of children on extraordinary adventures both in the classroom and outside on field trips, and soon will be saying good-bye to our talented, brilliant  and compassionate 5th graders – and that’s only a partial list!!

We are all so fortunate to have the privilege of being part of the McAuliffe community - it is unique.  The heart, soul and passion that propel us is incredibly valuable, and I am grateful to be a part of it.

Next year we can look forward to the continued beautification of our campus, enhanced technology programs, more glorious gardens, and ongoing expertise in educating your children.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all the McAuliffe staff, Parent Teacher Association members, School Site Council, our community partnerships, and you families.  Together we really can and really DO make a difference!

Respectfully,

Betsy Wilcox

Principal

Butterfly Habitat Garden NEEDS YOU!!!

Wednesday May 22: 9a.m.-11:00p.m.! We need everyone to help: Parents and Grandparents, bring your child to school and stay to help in the garden. No experience is needed. Help us to prepare the garden for the arrival of the butterflies. Adults and children will be given everything needed (including coaching about which weeds to pull and how to plant). Come and make an important difference for our school, our community, and our planet!

The Reading Counts Pizza Party was a wonderful success.  This year we had 136 students qualify for this great prize.   There were 27 in the 1st grade who achieved the 45 points in Reading Counts necessary to attend.  In 2nd grade 32 students made it to the pizza party prize, with 90 points!  The 3rd and 4th grades had 22 students each.  The 5th grade had 33 students earn the 135 points necessary!  Wow, great job everyone!
